1.
When I enter my authorization code, I get a timeout message?

If your authorization code is not working, chances are you are running a Personal Firewall software like ZoneAlarm. These applications block access to the internet. You will need to configure your firewall software to allow the software access to the internet. See the documentation for your firewall software on how to do this.

2.
Why do I get different results when I do a manual search than what Ranking-Manager reports?

Meta engines: Some engines (like InfoSpace, Metacrawler, and NBCi) are meta engines, which means they query several different search engines, getting a result set from each, then consolidate the various results into one listing. This consolidated listing can change significantly if the meta engine is unable to communicate with one or more engines, or if an engine returns different results than normal. Also when an engine takes even a fraction of a second too long to respond, the Meta engine may decide not to wait for it in order to display its consolidated results -- this especially can yield a different set of results from one minute to the next.

The Position Change reports are showing that the same page has been added and dropped. How can this be?

Ranking-Manager uses the url and page title to determine a unique page, so if you have posted a new page to the web site with a new title, Ranking-Manager will show the old page as being dropped and the new page as being added.

Click the Edit button on the toolbar to edit the current Report Filter, then select the Show/Hide tab. Next, check the option that says Show the Result Titles. This will add a column to the report showing the page titles whereby you can see the pages are unique.

4.
Starting Ranking-Manager on Win98se is causing a page to print

Windows 98se has a lot of printer driver problems that can be difficult to solve. In your case either turning off print caching in the driver will cure the problem, or start Ranking-Manager then go to Tools|Options|Reporting and uncheck either the box for buggy print drivers or disable page counts, or both.

If this still doesn't solve your problem, try updating the print driver to the latest version.

5.
The search engine icons don't display correctly

This is a common problem on Windows 98se. It may be a combination of your graphics driver and the common control library on your computer. Current there is no solution to this problem.
