Check Positions

The Check Positions task is where Web site ranking happens. This task allows you to run multiple rankings per day, which you might want to do if you are tracking press releases or other timely information. You can also select, view, and delete prior rankings using the Project Ranking list.

Start a Ranking

The Start a Ranking button is used to initiate a ranking. A window will display asking for a ranking name and which keywords and search engines you would like to rank. Once started, Website-Manager will query the search engines for your keywords and store the results to your project. While a project is ranking, you can still move about the program and start other tasks as well. For instance, you could start running reports for your current ranking right away. Of course the data won't be complete until the ranking is finished.

Abort

The Abort button is used to stop a ranking in progress. Aborting a ranking does not delete the ranking from your project. All data up to that point is still stored in the project. Use the Delete Selected Ranking button to remove the ranking if you need to.

Project Rankings

The Project Rankings list displays a list of rankings in new ranking first order that is stored in your project. You can select a prior ranking to see its data or to delete it. You can even rank a prior project again, but this is not recommended. Usually you would only rank a project again if it's on the same day.

Delete Selected Ranking

The Delete Selected Ranking button will remove the currently displayed ranking from your project—permanently. There is no way to recover the data once you delete a ranking.

Search Engine List

The Search Engine list not only shows the progress of the current ranking, but shows information about the data collected during the ranking.

The columns are...

  • Pages displays the total number of pages that were downloaded and analyzed.
  • Results displays the total number of results that were extracted from the pages downloaded.
  • Total Results displays the total number of results the search thinks it has for the queried keyword (if available).
  • Time displays the total amount of time it took to query the search engine and process the results.
