Importing project data from TopDog Pro is straight forward and usually doesn't take long. Before importing your project data, be sure you are using the latest version of TopDog Pro. Website-Manager can only import data from version 7.0.9.x or later.
To import project data from TopDog Pro, do the following:
| • | At the Welcome screen, click Open or Import an Existing Project. The Open Project dialog box shows. |
| • | Change the File Type to TopDog Pro Project (*.dog) and select the project to import. |
| • | Click Open and the project will begin to import. |
What Gets Imported
Because TopDog Pro and Website-Manager handle data differently, existing TopDog Pro project data must be converted and reformatted to work in Website-Manager. Here are the items that get converted.
URL's
Website-Manager only needs the Web site domain name to match results. This is enough information to find any and all pages from that Web site on the search engines. When importing URLs, any quoted or normal text is eliminated, all URLs are converted into domain names, and finally, the list of domain names is paired back to only the unique domain names (eliminating duplicates).
Keywords
All keywords are imported and any duplicates are removed.
Search Engine Selection
A new search engine category is created named 'TopDog Pro' that contains the project's search engine selection. The Start a Ranking dialog box will default to this search engine category initially.
Archived Rankings
TopDog Pro doesn't store matching result data, so none is imported.
