Importing project data from Ranking-Manager is straight forward. Depending on the size of your project and the speed of your computer, importing a project can take several minutes.

To import project data from Ranking-Manager, do the following:

What Gets Imported

Because Ranking-Manager and Website-Manager handle data differently, existing Ranking-Manager project data must be converted and reformatted to work in Website-Manager. Here are the items that get converted.

URL's

Website-Manager only needs the Web site domain name to match results. This is enough information to find any and all pages from that Web site on the search engines. When importing data from this step, any quoted or normal text is eliminated, all URLs are converted into domain names, and finally, the list of domain names is paired back to only the unique domain names (eliminating duplicates).

Keywords

All keywords are imported and any duplicates are removed. If there were ghosted keywords in your project (a keyword that was removed after a ranking and had results associated with it), those are added back.

Search Engine Selection

A new search engine category is created named 'Ranking-Manager' that contains the project's search engine selection. The Start a Ranking dialog box will default to this search engine category initially.

Archived Rankings

Any archived ranking data is imported and converted to the new format. Since Ranking-Manager only stored data for results that matched, many of the more  sophisticated reports do not work as expected. For example, you can not generate a Competitor Summary report with data from Ranking-Manager. As your project goes forward, you will be able to generate all of these reports from the newly collected data.
